After last week's adventure into trapeze, I found myself itching to go back after work today. So I did. This time, they had me try a whip.
The difference between the whip and last week's trick - affectionately known as the "newbie knee hang" - is that you have to take a flying leap out into space and then present yourself as a flying target to the instructor on the "catch trap" instead of just dangling from the bar until you're caught. It's one thing mentally to dangle by your knees, it's quite another to let go when the instructor says "hup."
There's no time to think. You just spring open and trust that his hands will be there. And if you trust, they're right there for you.
I had so much fun learning the flying Trapeze at Emerald City Trapeze today. Here are a few videos of me getting slowly and progressively better at the trapeze today, from best to just beginning.
I barely got my legs up in time for this first catch:
And here are the two where I slowly figure out how to put the moves together. All the girls there who are really good call this the "Newbie Knee Hang"
